Holdback, Dealer Cash and Incentives
Holdback
Nissan offers a holdback of 2% of the Base MSRP (excluding destination). This is paid to dealers quarterly. On a $35,000 vehicle this is approximately $700. Nissan also offers "dealer marketing support" which functions similarly to dealer cash.
Dealer Cash
UNVERIFIEDNissan dealer cash is among the most generous and frequent in the industry. For November 2026, dealer cash is reported on Altima ($1,500–$3,000), Murano ($1,500–$2,500), Ariya ($3,000–$5,000), and Maxima ($2,000–$4,000, final model year). Nissan dealers are typically more willing to share dealer cash than other brands.
November 2026 National Offers
| Model | Offer | Terms | |
|---|---|---|---|
| Altima | 0% APR for 72 months + $1,000 cash | Both stackable. Through Nov 30, 2026. | |
| Rogue | 0% APR for 72 months | All trims. Through Nov 30, 2026. | |
| Sentra | $1,500 cash back + 0% APR / 72 mo | Both stackable. Through Nov 30, 2026. | |
| Ariya | $7,500 EV lease cash + 0% APR | Lease cash for lease only. Purchase gets 0% / 72 mo. Through Nov 30, 2026. | UNVERIFIED |
| Frontier | $1,000 cash back | All trims. Through Nov 30, 2026. | |
| Z | 0.9% APR for 60 months | Well-qualified buyers. Through Nov 30, 2026. | UNVERIFIED |
Customer cash and APR offers are typically mutually exclusive — choose one or the other. Dealer cash is separate and can sometimes stack with customer offers.
Lease Programs: Money Factor and Residual
| Model | Money Factor | Residual | Term | |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Sentra | 0.00010 | 52% | 36 mo | UNVERIFIED |
| Altima | 0.00010 | 50% | 36 mo | UNVERIFIED |
| Rogue | 0.00020 | 49% | 36 mo | UNVERIFIED |
| Murano | 0.00030 | 46% | 36 mo | UNVERIFIED |
| Pathfinder | 0.00025 | 45% | 36 mo | UNVERIFIED |
| Ariya | 0.00005 | 48% | 36 mo | UNVERIFIED |
Money Factor (MF): The lease equivalent of an interest rate. To convert to APR, multiply by 2,400. Lower is better.
Residual: The estimated value of the vehicle at lease end, as a percentage of MSRP. Higher is better for lessees.
Fair Target Price
Formula
Invoice Price − Holdback (2% of MSRP) − Dealer Cash − Customer Incentives = Fair Target Price
| Benchmark | Target Price |
|---|---|
| Good deal | Invoice − 50% of holdback − 50% of dealer cash |
| Great deal | Invoice − full holdback − full dealer cash − incentives |
| Aggressive | Below invoice on most models (Nissan dealers have more room than most) |
The fair target price is a benchmark, not a guarantee. Dealer willingness depends on inventory, time of month, and demand for the specific model.
Add-ons and Markups
| Item | Typical Markup | Recommendation |
|---|---|---|
| Destination/Delivery | Included in MSRP | Non-negotiable. Already in MSRP. |
| Dealer documentation fee | $300–$900 | Negotiate down. Nissan dealers sometimes waive doc fees to close deals. |
| Nissan Protection Plus | $600–$2,000 | Decline. High margin, low value. Negotiate price if you truly want coverage. |
| All-weather floor mats | $200–$350 | Buy OEM online for ~$100. Decline dealer install. |
| Tire & wheel protection | $400–$1,000 | Decline unless you drive on rough roads frequently. |
| Extended warranty (Nissan Security+) | $500–$2,000 markup | Nissan Security+ is negotiable. Don't finance it into the loan. |
Negotiation Steps
- 1
Get the invoice price
Nissan invoice is typically 6–9% below MSRP. Find the exact invoice for your trim and options.
- 2
Calculate the 2% holdback
Nissan has 2% holdback on Base MSRP. On a $35,000 Altima that's $700 in hidden dealer profit.
- 3
Ask about dealer cash / marketing support
Nissan dealer cash is frequent and generous — especially on Altima, Murano, and Maxima. Ask directly: "What dealer marketing support is on this unit?"
- 4
Get OTD quotes from 3–5 dealers
Email multiple Nissan dealers for OTD pricing. Nissan dealers are known for being more flexible than Toyota or Honda.
- 5
Make your offer
Offer: Invoice − full holdback − dealer cash − customer incentives. Nissan dealers often accept this because their dealer cash is generous.
- 6
Decline Protection Plus add-ons
Decline pre-installed protection packages. Nissan dealers may try to include them — insist on a vehicle without them.
- 7
Use your own financing
Nissan often offers 0% APR — this can beat your credit union rate. But always compare total cost, not just monthly payment.
- 8
Negotiate hard — Nissan dealers have room
Nissan's aggressive dealer cash means more negotiation room than most brands. Don't settle for the first offer.
