Holdback, Dealer Cash and Incentives
Holdback
UNVERIFIEDHonda offers a holdback of 2% of the Base MSRP (excluding destination). This is the lowest holdback among Japanese brands but still represents meaningful profit — ~$600 on a $30,000 vehicle. Honda does not publicly disclose holdback, but dealer sources consistently report 2%.
Dealer Cash
UNVERIFIEDHonda dealer cash is less common than Toyota or Nissan but does appear on certain models. For November 2026, dealer cash is reported on Prologue ($2,000–$4,000) and Odyssey ($500–$1,000). Honda dealer cash is typically not stackable with APR promotions.
November 2026 National Offers
| Model | Offer | Terms | |
|---|---|---|---|
| Civic | 0.9% APR for 60 months | Well-qualified buyers. Through Nov 30, 2026. | |
| Accord | 0.9% APR for 60 months | Well-qualified buyers. Through Nov 30, 2026. | |
| CR-V | 1.9% APR for 60 months | All trims. Through Nov 30, 2026. | |
| Prologue | $7,500 EV lease cash + 2.9% APR | Lease cash for lease only. Purchase gets 2.9% / 72 mo. Through Nov 30, 2026. | UNVERIFIED |
| Pilot | $1,000 cash back | All trims. Through Nov 30, 2026. | |
| Ridgeline | 2.9% APR for 72 months | Well-qualified buyers. Through Nov 30, 2026. |
Customer cash and APR offers are typically mutually exclusive — choose one or the other. Dealer cash is separate and can sometimes stack with customer offers.
Lease Programs: Money Factor and Residual
| Model | Money Factor | Residual | Term | |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Civic Sedan | 0.00035 | 54% | 36 mo | |
| Civic Hatchback | 0.00040 | 52% | 36 mo | |
| Accord | 0.00035 | 51% | 36 mo | |
| HR-V | 0.00045 | 49% | 36 mo | UNVERIFIED |
| CR-V | 0.00040 | 52% | 36 mo | |
| CR-V Hybrid | 0.00035 | 53% | 36 mo | UNVERIFIED |
| Pilot | 0.00045 | 47% | 36 mo | |
| Prologue | 0.00015 | 50% | 36 mo | UNVERIFIED |
Money Factor (MF): The lease equivalent of an interest rate. To convert to APR, multiply by 2,400. Lower is better.
Residual: The estimated value of the vehicle at lease end, as a percentage of MSRP. Higher is better for lessees.
Fair Target Price
Formula
Invoice Price − Holdback (2% of MSRP) − Dealer Cash − Customer Incentives = Fair Target Price
| Benchmark | Target Price |
|---|---|
| Good deal | Invoice − 50% of holdback |
| Great deal | Invoice − full holdback − dealer cash |
| Note | Honda dealers have less margin room than Toyota/VW due to lower holdback + less dealer cash |
The fair target price is a benchmark, not a guarantee. Dealer willingness depends on inventory, time of month, and demand for the specific model.
Add-ons and Markups
| Item | Typical Markup | Recommendation |
|---|---|---|
| Destination/Delivery | Included in MSRP | Non-negotiable. Already in MSRP. |
| Dealer documentation fee | $300–$800 | Negotiate down. Honda dealers are less likely to waive than Toyota dealers. |
| Honda Care / protection package | $600–$2,000 | Decline the pre-installed package. Buy Honda Care separately if desired — it's negotiable. |
| All-weather floor mats | $200–$350 | Buy OEM Honda mats online for ~$100. Decline dealer install. |
| Tire road hazard | $300–$700 | Decline. Most tire damage is covered by insurance or tire warranty. |
| Extended warranty (Honda Care) | $400–$1,800 markup | If you want it, negotiate. Honda Care is sold online at near-cost by some dealers. |
Negotiation Steps
- 1
Research invoice price
Find the dealer invoice for your exact Civic, Accord, or CR-V trim. Honda invoice is typically 5–7% below MSRP.
- 2
Note the holdback
Honda holdback is 2% of Base MSRP — lower than some competitors. Dealer profit margin is thinner, so expect less negotiation room.
- 3
Check for dealer cash
Ask about dealer cash especially on Prologue and Odyssey. Honda dealer cash is less frequent but worth asking.
- 4
Get OTD quotes from multiple dealers
Email 3–5 Honda dealers for OTD pricing on the same vehicle. Honda dealers often match or beat each other.
- 5
Make your offer
Offer: Invoice − 50% of holdback − any customer incentives. Honda dealers may push back more than Toyota dealers due to thinner margins.
- 6
Decline the protection package
Honda Care protection packages are often pre-installed. Insist on a vehicle without it or refuse to pay for it.
- 7
Bring your own financing
Honda Financial APR promos (0.9%, 1.9%) are competitive. Compare with your credit union rate before deciding.
- 8
Time your purchase
Honda runs model-year clearance in late summer/fall. November is good for outgoing models but new redesigns (2025 Accord, 2026 Passport) will be near MSRP.
