Holdback, Dealer Cash and Incentives
Holdback
BMW does NOT offer a traditional holdback to US dealers. Instead, BMW dealers earn "margin in the invoice" — the spread between invoice and MSRP is typically 6–8%, which is larger than mainstream brands. There is no additional post-sale payment. This means the invoice price is the dealer's true cost.
Dealer Cash
UNVERIFIEDBMW dealer cash is uncommon but appears on outgoing models and certain EVs. For November 2026, dealer cash is reported on iX ($3,000–$6,000), 7 Series ($2,000–$5,000), and X7 ($1,000–$3,000). BMW dealer cash is often tied to specific stock numbers.
November 2026 National Offers
| Model | Offer | Terms | |
|---|---|---|---|
| 3 Series | 0.9% APR for 60 months | Well-qualified buyers. Through Nov 30, 2026. | |
| 5 Series | 1.9% APR for 60 months + $1,500 credit | Well-qualified buyers. Through Nov 30, 2026. | |
| X3 | 0.9% APR for 60 months | Well-qualified buyers on new 2025 model. Through Nov 30, 2026. | UNVERIFIED |
| i4 | $7,500 EV lease cash + 2.9% APR | Lease cash for lease only. Purchase gets 2.9% / 72 mo. Through Nov 30, 2026. | UNVERIFIED |
| iX | $9,000 EV lease cash | Lease only. Purchase qualifies for 3.9% APR / 72 mo. Through Nov 30, 2026. | UNVERIFIED |

| 7 Series | $3,000 loyalty credit + 2.9% APR | Current BMW owners only. Through Nov 30, 2026. | UNVERIFIED |
Customer cash and APR offers are typically mutually exclusive — choose one or the other. Dealer cash is separate and can sometimes stack with customer offers.
Lease Programs: Money Factor and Residual
| Model | Money Factor | Residual | Term | |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 2 Series GC | 0.00120 | 50% | 36 mo | |
| 3 Series | 0.00110 | 52% | 36 mo | |
| 4 Series GC | 0.00115 | 51% | 36 mo | |
| 5 Series | 0.00100 | 49% | 36 mo | |
| X1 | 0.00110 | 50% | 36 mo | UNVERIFIED |
| X3 | 0.00105 | 48% | 36 mo | UNVERIFIED |
| X5 | 0.00120 | 45% | 36 mo | |
| i4 | 0.00080 | 52% | 36 mo | UNVERIFIED |
| iX | 0.00070 | 47% | 36 mo | UNVERIFIED |
Money Factor (MF): The lease equivalent of an interest rate. To convert to APR, multiply by 2,400. Lower is better.
Residual: The estimated value of the vehicle at lease end, as a percentage of MSRP. Higher is better for lessees.
Fair Target Price
Formula
Invoice Price − Dealer Cash − Customer Incentives = Fair Target Price (no holdback to subtract — BMW has none)
| Benchmark | Target Price |
|---|---|
| Good deal | Invoice − 3% (part of dealer margin) |
| Great deal | Invoice − dealer cash − all incentives (approaching dealer cost) |
| Unrealistic | Below invoice on high-demand M cars or new redesigns |
The fair target price is a benchmark, not a guarantee. Dealer willingness depends on inventory, time of month, and demand for the specific model.
Add-ons and Markups
| Item | Typical Markup | Recommendation |
|---|---|---|
| Destination/Delivery | Included in MSRP | Non-negotiable. Already in MSRP. |
| MACO / Training fee | $300–$700 | BMW-specific fee. Legitimate but negotiate it into the price — don't pay on top. |
| Dealer prep / reconditioning | $200–$500 | Decline. BMW cars come prepped from the factory. |
| Paint / leather protection | $800–$3,000 | Decline. Grossly overpriced for a $20 ceramic coating application. |
| Tire & wheel protection | $700–$1,500 | BMW run-flats are expensive — this can be worth it on X models, but negotiate the price. |
| Extended warranty (BMW Extended Service) | $800–$3,000 markup | BMW repairs are costly — if keeping past 4yr/50k, negotiate hard on price. Don't finance it into the lease/loan. |
Negotiation Steps
- 1
Get the invoice price
BMW invoice is typically 6–8% below MSRP — this is the dealer's margin. No hidden holdback. The invoice IS close to their cost.
- 2
Understand there's no holdback
Unlike Toyota/VW, BMW dealers don't get a 2% kickback after sale. Their profit is in the MSRP-to-invoice spread plus finance/lease reserve.
- 3
Ask about dealer cash
Especially on iX, 7 Series, and X7. Ask: "Is there any dealer cash or marketing support on this stock number?"
- 4
Request OTD pricing via email
Email 3–5 BMW dealers for OTD price on the exact vehicle (VIN or stock number). BMW dealers are more likely to negotiate via email than in-person.
- 5
Make your offer
Offer: Invoice − dealer cash − any customer incentives. This gets you close to dealer cost. Most BMW dealers will accept a 2–3% margin deal.
- 6
Negotiate the MACO fee
BMW charges a MACO/training fee. Ask for it to be included in the negotiated price, not added on top.
- 7
Consider BMW Financial lease programs
BMW leases often have subsidized money factors. If the MF is 0.00100 or lower, leasing can be better than financing at 5%+ APR.
- 8
Time your purchase around model cycles
BMW discounts outgoing models heavily in summer/fall. New redesigns (2025 X3, 2025 M5) will be at or above MSRP. Buy the outgoing model for the best deal.
